• Phase 3: Group and Independent Activities

As you progress through your first semester, there are some important activities to complete that will prepare you for assessments and strengthen your academic skills. These activities build on what you’ve learned so far and help you feel confident as you begin submitting assignments and using more advanced resources.

    Essential activities include:
    • Near Reading Week, you’ll attend a workshop on using OpenAthens to access eBooks, journals, and reports. This session will show you how to make the most of our systems to find high-quality sources for your assignments. This will be organised by your Course Leader.
    • Prior to your first assignment submission (November time), you will learn how to submit assignments using ATS2 (note, ITE students will also use a different system). The instructions can be found in the document below.
    • UEA Students: Study the UEA Validated Qualifications eLearning in the Academic Skills Centre to find out about your degree programme and how it operates.
    • UEA Students: Study the Understanding Grading and Feedback on UEA Validated courses eLearning to find out about the assessment process, marking criteria, and feedback loop.
    • Completing the Academic Integrity and Referencing eLearning module before your first assignment. Please ensure that you choose the referencing system that is adopted by your course.

    Optional activities include:

    • Undertaking any optional eLearning study skills courses in the Academic Skills Centre.
    • Book academic tutorials
    • Book pastoral tutorial

You will find a checklist below to help remind you of what activities you need to undertake in this phase and you can tick these off as you complete them. You might review these in your pastoral tutorials with your Course Leader too. Feel free to add your own activities to this checklist if you like too.
