The language of objects.

As a potential designer or maker one of your primary ambitions will be to originate objects. In a world proliferated with material things you have a duty and an obligation to use resources in a considered and appropriate manner so as to make your contribution thoughtful and not flippant.

Before designing and making objects we must first come to a developed awareness of the inherent language embodied in material and form. For success in our field we need to build a personal vocabulary that has been developed through understanding the various properties of materials and processes and how these in conjunction with form resonate with meaning. Only when we have some command of the language of objects can we hope to contribute intelligently to society as makers, to enhance life and not detract from it.
