Course description

This module will enable students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to effectively plan the development of their individual projects and the writing up of the dissertation report. A study of research methods will provide students with the knowledge required to choose and justify their planned approach to their own project. The student is required to produce, after obtaining feedback from both staff and students, a satisfactory project proposal. This proposal will include a critical appraisal of the relevant literature.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify a suitable research project and compare and contrast the suitability of different research and development methods.

2. Critically evaluate and respond appropriately to feedback given on the project idea.

3. Select and apply appropriate project planning techniques.

4. Critically review published research and literature in relation to the chosen area of study.

5. Orally present a project proposal to an audience and engage in discussion to show a critical understanding of the topic area.
